During exam season in Japan, you may find students using golden pentagonal wooden pencils to take their tests instead of their usual writing instruments. This is because of the homonym, gokaku which can mean both "pentagon" and "success" in Japanese. These pencils are usually inscribed with 合格 meaning "success" or "passed (the exam)." Students often use these pencils as good luck charms during those stressful end-of-year tests and entrance exams.
This Gokaku Eraser from Hinodewashi is a call-back to these pencils and makes a great gift for students and graduates, but of course, can ensure your success no matter what you do.
- Plastic Eraser
- Dimensions: 1.75 in long, 0.5 in diameter
I bought this eraser because has a sign of Good Luck or Success on it. I thought this golden wrap was metal or brass. But it is carton with foil. Erases clean and with few residue. Does not scratch the paper. Has five sides, so you can have five angles to erase. It is about 2 inches. Easy to carry on.
